It’s that time again when Manhattan, and now parts of Brooklyn will empty out on weekends. While, humidity causes frustration, beaches beckon an escape from apartments with no air conditioning. OAK, with two fashionable locations in Williamsburg and NoHo, invites everyone to kickoff summer on Fire Island. “Come join us as we kick off the summer and launch our new store, the Oak Beach House at the Fire Island Pines. An article from 2007 seems to think so, “In our partner segment with New York Magazine, Open House NY host George Oliphant meets Jhoanna Robledo, editor of NY Mag’s Real Estate section, on the docks of Fire Island. With a stiff breeze in their faces, Jhoanna and George discuss a new gale that is blowing in Fire Island: the winds of change.
Jhoanna claims that Fire Island is on the verge of becoming “the New Hamptons.” A new Prudential Douglas Elliman office has set up shop and there are now demands to turn the exclusive community into a WiFi-enabled, nanny-ready destination with turn-key beach homes on everyone’s mind” (BlogCritics).
It’s certainly more convenient to get to from Manhattan, but feels a little more off the beaten path. OAK may be onto something…
